ROLE OF REVIEWERS AND REVIEWER GUIDELINES

SCIENTARA JOURNAL

Journal of Agricultural, Environmental and Life Sciences

Overview

Peer reviewers play an important role in maintaining the quality, integrity, transparency, and academic credibility of Scientara Journal. Reviewers assist editors by providing independent, objective, and constructive assessment of manuscripts.

Their assessment may help editors evaluate originality, relevance, methodological quality, validity, clarity, reporting quality, and ethical compliance.

Reviewer recommendations are advisory. The assigned editor remains responsible for interpreting the reports and making the final editorial decision.

Reviewers should follow this Reviewer Guidelines policy, the Scientara Peer Review Policy, the Publication Ethics and Research Integrity Policy, and any relevant journal-specific instructions provided with the review invitation.

Reviewer Eligibility and Selection

Reviewers should be selected according to appropriate subject expertise, methodological expertise, research experience, relevant academic or professional background, ability to provide an objective assessment, availability, independence, and the absence of relevant conflicts of interest.

Before accepting an invitation, reviewers should consider whether they have sufficient expertise, can complete the review within the requested timeframe, can maintain confidentiality, have no relevant conflict of interest, can provide an objective and constructive assessment, and can comply with the journal's ethical and confidentiality requirements.

A reviewer who lacks the necessary expertise, cannot meet the requested deadline, cannot maintain confidentiality, or has a significant conflict should decline the invitation or contact the editor. Reviewers should never accept an invitation merely to gain access to unpublished research.

Core Reviewer Principles

Objectivity

Reviews should be based on scholarly merit, evidence, and the quality of the manuscript rather than on personal preference or unrelated considerations.

Constructive assessment

Comments should be clear, respectful, and useful to both editors and authors. Reviewers should identify strengths, limitations, and specific improvements where appropriate.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts, reviewer reports, editorial correspondence, and any unpublished information must be treated as confidential and must not be shared or used outside the review process.

Timeliness

Reviewers should make reasonable efforts to complete the review within the time requested and should inform the editor promptly if an extension or decline is necessary.

Integrity

Reviewers should report concerns about plagiarism, data reliability, ethical issues, duplicate publication, image manipulation, or other matters that may affect the manuscript's trustworthiness.

Professional responsibility

Reviewers should maintain a courteous and professional tone and approach the task as a contribution to scholarly quality and editorial decision-making.

Reviewer Responsibilities

  • Provide an honest, independent, and evidence-based assessment of the manuscript.
  • Comment on originality, relevance, methodology, interpretation, structure, and presentation where appropriate.
  • Distinguish between major issues and minor points when giving feedback.
  • Support editorial decisions by identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas needing clarification or revision.
  • Alert the editor to any suspected ethical concern, substantial overlap, plagiarism, or misuse of published or unpublished material.
  • Disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest as soon as it is recognized.
  • Do not use manuscript content for personal advantage or share it with others without permission from the editor.

Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest

Confidentiality

Reviewers must not circulate, quote, upload, discuss, or otherwise disclose any part of a manuscript or review correspondence outside the editorial process.

Conflicts of interest

If a reviewer has a financial, personal, professional, competitive, or institutional conflict that could affect impartiality, the reviewer should decline the invitation or seek guidance from the editor.

Reviewers should not allow prior collaboration, direct competition, close personal relationships, or other relevant circumstances to compromise an objective review.

How to Prepare a Review

General comments to the editor

These comments may summarize the manuscript's overall contribution, identify key strengths and weaknesses, and note any major ethical or methodological concerns that should inform the editorial decision.

Comments to the author

These comments should help the author improve the manuscript through clear, specific, and respectful suggestions. Reviewers should explain concerns rather than merely listing them.

Where relevant, reviewers may comment on the novelty of the work, the appropriateness of the methods, the interpretation of results, the clarity of tables and figures, the sufficiency of references, and the overall presentation of the manuscript.

Ethical Concerns and Reviewer Conduct

Reviewers should inform the editor if they suspect plagiarism, fabricated or manipulated data, duplicate submission, authorship concerns, unethical research practice, or other forms of publication misconduct.

Reviewers should not seek to contact authors directly about the manuscript, should not use privileged information for personal benefit, and should not delegate the review to another person without the editor's permission.

Policy Statement

Scientara Journal values reviewers as essential contributors to scholarly publishing and expects every reviewer to act with fairness, confidentiality, independence, and academic integrity.
